The events of the morning, as told by my husband

My husband gets up very early for work.  The dogs are usually very excited when he gets up b/c they can't wait to pee, poo, and have some breakfast.

The boys woke long before the crack of dawn today so we were able to see Nick off to work before he left.  Before he went he needed to tell me a story.

"I almost had some really bad news to give you on your birthday.  I thought Maddy (my dog) was dead.  When I came downstairs she didn't meet me at the stairs.  When I went to the bathroom she wasn't whining or scratching at the gate like normal.  I came into the room and shook her.  Nothing.  I started tugging the blanket that was under her.  Nothing.  I turned on the light to make sure she was breathing.  I started shaking her again and she lethargically rolled over so I could rub her belly, but she acted like she was too sick to make the effort.  Then I asked if she wanted to go outside and she proceeded to dart to the door.  Damn dog."

So, I nearly woke up to the message of my dog dying on my birthday.  I'm sure glad that wasn't the case.

I think I'm going to take the boys shopping today.  I wonder how many tantrums we'll have this time.
